Musical Director

Ben Kubiak

Ben recently returned to England after ten years of living and working in New Zealand. This year he was musical director for Roald Dahl’s The Enormous Crocodile at Regents’ Park Open Air Theatre, and is looking forward to soon MD’ing this show in Minneapolis and Los Angeles. His other recent work includes writing arrangements for The Royal Academy’s upcoming December production Trev: The Musical Lives of Trevor Nunn. He is a recent graduate in Musical Direction and Coaching from the Roayl Academy of Music, where was musical director for Stephen Sondheim’s Assassins.

In New Zealand, Ben’s work included serving as resident musical director for the National Youth Theatre, with shows including Cats (2023) and Oliver (2022). His other credits include Assistant Music Director/Keyboard 2 for the New Zealand premiere of Kinky Boots, Keyboard 1 for Chess with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, and various professional engagements as keyboardist and rehearsal pianist for shows including Jersey Boys, Into the Woods, and The Addams Family.

Ben also has a background in opera. From 2023-24 he studied as a repetiteur on the Opera Programme at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and was a Young Artist and frequent repetiteur for New Zealand Opera.
